Health fest offers tips for Latino families

Latino families can get a host of healthy living tips and take part in screenings and exercise classes during "Fundacion Familia Sana" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Desoto Park, 2617 Corrine St in Tampa.
The Palmetto Beach Health Fiesta is sponsored by the Bob Gilbertson Central City YMCA and the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department. The event is part of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA's Hispanic/Latino Collaborative. With one in four Hispanic adults in the United States considered obese, and more than one in six Hispanic high school students overweight, the HLC provides members of the Latino community with health programs tailored to Spanish-speakers.
Some of the screenings available include glucose and cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI, memory (Alzheimer's), skin cancer and hearing tests for the elderly.
There also will be games and activities and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. The event is free and open to the public.
